We recognise the effect of greenhouse gases and climate change on our environment and on local communities.
As a business, we do what we can to minimise our contribution to climate change.
The vast majority of our greenhouse gas emissions are indirect and result from line losses as electricity is distributed throughout our network.
But there are other more direct sources of greenhouse gas emissions that we are tackling.
We watch how much fuel we use in our vehicles – we encourage video-conferencing, public transport, and we even have bicycle user groups (or BUGs) – and we partner with Greenfleet, a not-for-profit group that plants trees to offset the carbon emissions of our light fleet.
We also try to minimise the energy consumption at our work sites – new energy efficient lighting and equipment and energy audits are helping to reduce our consumption.
Our extensive recycling program also helps us to reduce emissions by diverting waste away from landfill.
And each year we publicly report our greenhouse gas emissions via the Federal government’s National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) program.
