77% of the regions light up

27 August 2015

The Lighting the Regions project has reached 77 percent completion with nearly 18,000 street lights changed since the project commenced in October 2014. As of mid-June 2015, the Greater Bendigo region has had more than 5000 street lights changed to safer, more energy efficient street lighting.

The Lighting the Regions project is Australia's largest street lighting partnership and will soon move to its 11th region in Victoria and one step closer to providing nearly 50% of regional Victoria with safer, energy efficient street lighting.

So far the regions of Mildura, Swan Hill, Horsham, Loddon, Central Goldfields, Northern Grampians, Ararat, Hepburn, Hindmarsh, Buloke, Gannawarra and Pyrenees in Western Victoria have had their street lights changed.

Powercor is the Distribution Network Service Provider for this project and we have worked closely with 16 local government councils to support this project. Lighting the Regions is currently underway in the Mount Alexander region where the older style mercury street lights will be changed to the safer, more energy efficient LED lights.
