Powering the Australian Open

22 January 2015

Every January, over 700,000 tennis fans come to Melbourne from around the globe and interstate to watch the Australian Open and there's no place they would rather be than Melbourne Park. As with previous years, Citipower continues to work hard behind the scenes to keep the power on at the Australian Open.

To ensure that the lights stay on and the scoreboard stays lit at Melbourne Park, we carry out a number of inspections onsite prior to the tournament kicking off. This includes conducting thermo scans and load checks of our equipment to ensure that everything runs according to plan.

We also monitor the tournament by watching closely on our screens to make sure that precinct has a reliable electricity supply throughout the tournament.

In the last few years, we've also laid almost 1km of underground cables and installed two underground cable pits around Melbourne Park as part of the Margaret Court Arena redevelopment.

This year, We are working closely with the builder on site to finalise the detail design for a new substation in the new Melbourne Park administration building.

Citipower is proud to support the Australian Open, one of Australia’s largest and most iconic and sporting events.
