Media Release: Maintenance to be conducted on power network in Cobram, Yarrawonga and surrounds

A planned power outage will occur in Cobram, Yarrawonga and surrounding areas early next month as part of electricity distribution business Powercor’s ongoing maintenance program to ensure the network continues to deliver safe and reliable power.

The planned outage will impact about 6,000 customers on Sunday, 5 May, 2019 between 8.30am to approximately 3.30pm. Other towns to be impacted include Yarroweyah, Katamatite, Tungamah, Bundalong and Wilby.

Powercor Field Leader, Network Services, Rod Armstrong said the outage was taking place to allow crews to conduct work that was important to the security of power supply and safety of the network.

“We never want to take our customers off supply, but this work is about making sure the electricity network continues delivering safe and reliable power and helps minimise extended unplanned outages in the future,” Mr Armstrong said.

“We understand any outage is inconvenient for customers and we will have extra crews on site working as safely and quickly as possible to complete this work.”

The work involves crews replacing insulators (equipment that sits at the top of power poles to ensure powerlines are not earthed) at 20 locations and other equipment.

Work has been scheduled for a Sunday to help minimise disruptions to customers. Powercor will use generators to keep power supply on to the town centres of Cobram and Yarrawonga as well to minimise the number of impacted customers.

Impacted customers will be notified by letter at least four business days before the outage. Customers with special electricity requirements are encouraged to use their contingency plans on the day.
