Powercor lineworkers Ben Neville and Mitch Cuthill have been described as local heroes by Victoria Police, following their dramatic rescue of an elderly man in Geelong earlier this year.
Both men were awarded police divisional commendations on Wednesday by Geelong police at a ceremony at GMHBA stadium for their role in saving the life of a 98 year old man from a house fire in Hamlyn Heights.
On 2 July, Mr Neville and Mr Cuthill noticed smoke coming from a nearby home while working on powerlines in the area late in the evening.
They forced their way into the home, rescuing the elderly man who was overcome with smoke.
Powercor’s General Manager, Network Services Peter Bryant said everyone at Powercor is very proud of Ben and Mitch.
“We congratulate them for being recognised for their amazing act of courage,” Mr Bryant said.
“It’s a great example of good people putting the safety of their community first.”
