Mildura power outage
Updates on the power outage in Mildura and surrounding areas after a vehicle collided with a power pole on Monday morning.
We’ve made significant progress today, with our crews restoring power to more than 700 customers.
Our teams are continuing their work into this evening, inspecting individual properties and restoring power where it is safe to do so. We are on track to attend all properties affected by the outage by tomorrow afternoon.
We know this has been a difficult week for many customers and thank the Mildura community for its patience, understanding and support. The encouragement our crews have received while working through this restoration effort has been extraordinary.
Since a car hit a power pole and caused Monday’s power outage, we’ve restored power to almost 1800 customers and are continuing to work to reconnect the remaining 984 customers.
While we expect most customers to have power restored by tomorrow, some may remain without supply if nobody is at the property when our crews attend, or if repairs are needed to internal wiring or customer-owned electrical equipment.
We will speak with customers directly if we attend their property and further steps need to be taken before we can re-energise their supply.
Our teams will continue working throughout the weekend and into next week to support customers to reconnect their properties.

Information on crews attending properties
Customers must be at a premise before we can conduct inspections.
Where possible, we are sending text messages to customers ahead of our crews attending a property.
If a customer is not at the site, our crews will leave a notification outlining to call us to organise a visit.
If a customer has damage to their household’s electrical set up
If our crews identify damage to a household’s electrical wiring, the customer will need to organise an electrician to conduct repairs.
If this occurs, customers can:
- Search for a registered electrician through Energy Safe Victoria at: https://esv.vic.gov.au/licensing-coes/public-register-and-searches/
- The electrician will complete a safety and compliance inspection
- Once any repairs are done they will issue a Certificate of Electrical Safety to us (at info@powercor.com.au)

Powercor crews are continuing to inspect properties impacted by a power outage caused by a car crashing into a pole yesterday morning.
The crash resulted in a ‘high voltage injection’. Due to the nature of this fault, a Licenced Electrical Inspector may need to attend properties to complete safety checks. Because of this, restoration could take a number of days as our inspectors work as safely and as quickly as possible through impacted properties. Access will be required to electricity meters to complete these tests.
What is a high voltage injection?
Under normal operating conditions, high and low voltage powerlines are kept safely separated. However, in exceptional circumstances, such as the vehicle accident that occurred on Monday, a high voltage line may come into contact with a low voltage line. This means a higher-than-normal voltage enters the low voltage network and may result in damage to electrical wiring or connected equipment and has the potential to cause fires.
A relief centre has been set up at the Alfred Deakin Centre, 180-190 Deakin Avenue, Mildura. Powercor’s emergency response vehicle has been set up and will be providing free coffee, water, snacks and phone and device charging facilities.

Impacted customers will also be able to speak to Powercor staff in person to get up to date information and assistance.
Customers impacted by the outage are also asked to check their homes and businesses for any damaged switchboards, strange smells, or other damage, and to call Powercor as soon as possible on 13 24 12 to help inspectors work through impacted properties and speed up repairs.
Customers will continue to be updated via text message.
