Applications for the prolonged power outage payment closed at 11.59am on 10 April 2024.

The payments, funded by the Victorian Government and Australian Government, provided financial relief to households and businesses that were without power for seven or more cumulative days due to extreme weather events on Tuesday 13 February 2024 and Thursday 22 February 2024.

 

I just found out I was eligible for a payment – is it too late to apply?

Yes, as applications have now closed. During the application period, we contacted all eligible customers to notify them of the payment and how to apply. If you believe you are eligible but were not contacted, please contact us.

 

I have submitted my application but I have not yet received my payment – why?

Our customer resolution team reviews all applications to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria developed by the Victorian Government. Please contact us on 13 22 06 to speak with us directly about your application.

 

My application for a payment was rejected – why?

We review all applications against the eligibility criteria designed by the Victorian Government. More information is available at energy.vic.gov.au.

 

Who was eligible for the payments?

Residential customers:

  • Had a residential electricity account that was registered against a national meter identification number (NMI) for the Powercor electricity distribution network (electricity account holder).
  • Was an electricity account holder for a property which was without power for 7 days cumulatively as a result of severe weather events on Tuesday 13 February 2024 and Thursday 22 February within a 2-week (14 day) period), from 13 February 2024.
  • Had not applied for, or received a prolonged power outage payment, for an electricity account that was registered against the same NMI in relation to the same period.

Businesses:

  • Had a business electricity account that is registered against a national meter identification number (NMI) for the Powercor Australia electricity distribution network (Electricity Account Holder)
  • Had the Electricity Account Holder in the name of the business’ legal name or trading name
  • Operated from a location that was without power for 7 days cumulatively, as a result of severe weather events on Tuesday 13 February 2024 and Thursday 22 February 2024 within a 2-week (14 day) period from 13 February 2024.
  • Had an annual Victorian payroll of $10 million or less in 2022/2023 on an ungrouped basis.*
  • Held an Australian Business Number (ABN) and held that ABN at 12.01am Tuesday 13 February 2024.
  • Was registered with the responsible federal or state regulator.
  • Had not applied for, or received, a prolonged power outage payment for an electricity account that was registered against the same NMI in relation to the same period.

*Where a business was in a payroll group, the payroll eligibility criteria applied to each business in the payroll group. That is, any member of a group with an annual Victorian taxable payroll of up to $10 million in 2022-2023 can apply.
